Finn has blessed memories of growing up in Shepherd’s Bush. There was the side where he’d get up to mischief with his friends (“Playing knock-down ginger and British Bulldog,” he grins), but there was also an adverse side of city living. “As you get older, you realise people trying to sell you drugs or trying to get you to do jobs for them when you’re 10 years old is not typical,” he reflects. Ultimately, though, it was the melting pot nature of West London that shaped who Finn is today, whether it was his political outlook being informed by the area’s stark wealth divide or his ambitious musical approach building on the local twin heritage of punk rock and British-Jamaican sound system music. It wasn’t long before he was rapping himself. The local connections of schools, youth centres, dance classes, and steel pan bands introduced Finn to a like-minded community of artists – notably P-Rallel, Lord Apex, Xav, and Louis Culture, a group of friends and collaborators with whom he would form the Elevation Meditation collective. Over time, his sound has evolved into a fusion of genres, pulling from hip-hop, indie, and the bass-driven textures of UK dance music. With his debut album, Finn refines this journey into a bold new era, distilling years of experience into a sound that feels both deeply personal and expansive in vision.
