Sophia Stel is committed to reshaping the sound of pop music. Melodic guitar riffs backed by frenetic, electronic drums — introspective lyricism delivered with a euphoric, synth-like quality; “they are intimate and have personality, this is hard to do, and even harder to find,” writes James Younger of Yukon Blonde in response to her debut EP, which will see a mid 2023 release on Canada-based imprint Specials Worldwide. 
“My genre? I make electronic music with some live guitar elements. It’s sort of Pop, but it’s sort of not because it’s not popular, I guess. Not in an edgy way, though. That’s what Paul Devro said to me actually. He said “it’s not Pop music if it’s not popular.” But that’s probably the genre I’m closest to. Pop.”
