Collect LX Factory presents….Lawrence on Saturday, September 26th. For more than two decades, @lawrence_dial - the alias of Hamburg-based producer and DJ Peter M. Kersten - has been one of the defining figures in the deeper, more atmospheric side of house and techno. Since the early 2000s, his music has developed a distinctive language of restrained grooves, melancholic melodies, subtle textures and an unmistakable sense of space. As co-founder of Dial Records, together with Carsten Jost, Lawrence has helped shape one of the most influential independent labels in contemporary electronic music. His work through Dial, alongside his involvement with Smallville Records, has created a lasting musical world where house, techno and ambient sensibilities exist naturally alongside one another. His own catalogue reflects that same evolution - from early releases such as The Absence of Blight and The Night Will Last Forever, through Until Then, Goodbye, Films & Windows, Yoyogi Park and Illusion, to his more recent explorations of field recordings, improvisation and ambient sound. Alongside his work as Lawrence, Kersten has also released more stripped-back, techno-oriented material under the name Sten, further revealing the breadth of his approach to electronic music. A DJ with an instinct for detail rather than excess, Lawrence’s sets move through deep house, minimal techno and hypnotic electronic music with the same emotional precision that has defined his productions for over twenty years.
