Degnis Bofill is a Cuban drummer, percussionist, singer and composer. He is well versed in an array of percussion instruments and a connoisseur of Cuban’s unique rhythmic tradition. A vastly experienced performer, he has toured the world, and performed alongside Arturo O’Farrill, Orlando Valle “Maraca”, Néstor Torres, Bobby Carcassés, Jon Cleary, Dave Weckl, Blondie, Brian Lynch, Peter More, Jaques Morelenbaum, Daymé Arocena, Lula Galvão, John Forté, Omara Potruondo.
Degnis’ directs his own ensemble, Golpes Libres (Free Hits), mixing Afro-Cuban traditional music and modern jazz, combining intricate textures, improvisation, and elaborate harmonic work. He is also a music educator, and offers workshops. Degnis won a Latin Grammy for the album Ancestros Sinfónico in the category of Best Folk Album with the band Síntesis. He has recorded on more than 40 albums with some of the above mentioned artists and others.
Degnis is a OneBeat fellow having been honored with the distintion in 2023.
