I’m watching cumgirl8: bodies writhing, ideas pulsating, knees quivering, and the relief of escapism mixing with the air like sweat. It’s early and the crowd attempts to cheer and is awkwardly quiet. The performers raise their arms and face their prey like raptors. Then one stick figure recites nursery rhymes, impossible to memorize, each song channeling a generation of imitators into one delayed and doubled microphone. Later another seems to raise children before us, forcing push ups out of each disagreement, a crop of strong willing disciples. A third creates a mime figure designed to delight and entrance, summoning an audience of swaying desires. The crowd doesn’t know how to feel. Their brains are being reduced to a gender neutral bathroom with no one in it. Do you like Kleenex? No answer. Do you like Crass. No answer. How do you even feel? Focused, calm, peace loving, full of appreciation for human life as a unit without subdivision. cumgirl8 brings us together, so why are people confused? -Matt Picola
