About

mateo is a DJ and producer originally from Bastia. His musical journey has its roots in the psychedelic sounds of the free parties in the Nantes region, where he co-founded the collective a’sonor. It was there that he explored a diverse range of styles, from progressive psytrance to melodic techno and minimal, before immersing himself in club culture. His approach, deeply influenced by his work as a sound designer for contemporary dance, is characterised by an organic and sensitive exploration of sound material. He encapsulates his exploration of electronic music under the term ‘density’ — a play on words with dance music, but one that also reflects the essence of his entire creative journey: a quest for dense music, where texture and depth take precedence. To date, density has taken several forms, ranging from hypnotic techno firmly geared towards the dancefloor to a deeper, more experimental techno, with rhythms that are at times broken and faster, as well as a recent exploration of ambient music devoid of percussive elements, where the sheer mass of sound provides the depth.
